Soil Improvement Analysis for an Industrial Facility in Esenyurt, Istanbul
Abstract: Due to the low bearing capacity and settlement risks of the soil at an industrial facility project in the Esenyurt district of Istanbul, a soil improvement strategy utilizing "Jet Grout Columns" was implemented. This case study evaluates the 3D analysis capabilities of SETAF2018 in jet grouting applications and examines the consistency of its results with PLAXIS 3D.
Technical Solution: Upon examination of the soil profile, 80 cm diameter jet grout columns were designed to enhance the bearing capacity of the Güngören Formation units encountered at the site. Utilizing the SETAF2018 module, the total bearing capacity of the improved soil following column installation and the bending moments occurring under the raft foundation were meticulously calculated.
Why SETAF2018? For advanced ground improvement methods such as jet grouting, validations performed via Finite Element Method (PLAXIS 3D) are critical to ensuring structural reliability. While offering significantly shorter modeling and analysis times, SETAF2018 proves its reliability by delivering results for vital parameters—such as bending moments and settlement values—that align neck-and-neck with industry-standard software.
