Anchored Bored Pile System Design and PLAXIS 2D Benchmarking

Abstract: This case study examines the engineering details of an "Anchored Bored Pile" system designed for a foundation excavation approximately 10 meters in depth. The primary objective of this study is to provide technical data demonstrating the high correlation between SETAF2018 outputs and the industry-standard PLAXIS 2D software.

Technical Solution: Within the scope of the project, 80 cm diameter bored piles and prestressed anchors were utilized. In the analyses conducted using the soil parameters of the stiff-to-hard clay (Güngören Formation) characteristic of the region; the pile tip elevation, anchor capacity, and horizontal displacement amounts were calculated via SETAF2018. The software enabled the optimization of the design by rapidly simulating multi-stage excavation scenarios.

Why SETAF2018? In the cross-checks conducted for the Nuri Öztürk project, it was observed that the bending moment and anchor force values provided by SETAF2018 almost perfectly aligned with the PLAXIS 2D results. This outcome further documents that SETAF2018 produces high-standard, reliable, and fully code-compliant results, even in complex shoring projects.
